EHLC manages or coordinates with other groups on numerous preservation activities. Since 1995, EHLC has played an active role in education, preservation, and promotion of Elkins History and Architectural Heritage.



2009
• Developed strategic plan for Darden House and Complex.

• Created an EHLC office on the second floor of the Darden House and a Preservation Resource Center on the first floor.

• Worked with Davis & Elkins College to select new exterior paint colors for Halliehurst.
• Revised original EHLC bylaws and developed policies for usage of the Darden House.
• Received SHPO Development Grant for repair and rehabilitation of Darden House Porch.
• Worked with The Kump House Trust and WV Department of Highways to discuss possible mitigation for right-of-way on Governor H.G. Kump property.
• Sent member to National Trust for Preservation Annual Conference in Nashville.
Received grant for underwriting conference attendance.
• Received SHPO Development grant in partnership with the City of Elkins for the redevelopment of Governor H.G. Kump House.
• Supported nomination of First Ward and Riverside schools to National Register of Historic Places.
• Members named to committees for On Trac, sponsored by the Randolph County Development Authority and the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce.
• Updated EHLC logo and created matching stationery.
• Created an independent EHLC Web site, with design donated by 515 Creative Design.
• Worked with Wees Historic District and WV Region VII Office to explore period lighting project.
• Partnered with AmeriCorps for program support and implementation.


2008
• Sponsored City Resolution in support of the Wees Historic District Neighborhood Plan.
• Worked with City of Elkins on donation and development of Governor H.G. Kump House.
• Supported nomination of Scott Hill to National Register of Historic Places.
• Attended On Trac Program workshop sponsored by West Virginia Development Office.

2007
• Co-funded Adaptive Re-use study of First Ward School with architect Bryson Van Nostrand

• Wees Historic District listed on National Register of Historic Places
• Darden House brickwork repointed with National Trust Preservation Grant

• Christmas tree added to Darden House Garden in memory of Carl Basil, Jr.
• Wees District Holiday House Tour fundraiser
• Wees District nomination process with consultant David Taylor

• Cool Communities Tree Grant added trees in Seneca Mall parking lot
• Historic plaque placed on William Featherstone Bldg./Black American Legion
